Super common road service is an u-joint failure causing a driveline to twist and break off on the road. A driveline breaking off on the road causes lots of damage and danger on the road. A broken exhaust piece can crack, fall, and cause a lot of damage. A few days ago, Mario had an IZUZU truck call in for road service, North of Edinburg. The driver was complaining that the truck had lost power, then shut off. Upon arrival, picked up the cab, the inspection found a bad exhaust elbow that had cracked and fallen on the computer harness. All parts had to be ordered from the dealer for the next day, Monday due to the weekend. The customer was from San Antonio, its was Friday around 5 pm, and 2 drivers wanting to go home to their families. The owner asked if anything could be done. Mr. Rodriguez called for road service in Rio Grande City a few days ago. He stated that his trailer was leaning overloaded with caliche. After driving out to the location, all leaf springs on the passenger side had broken. Jacked up leaf spring, leveled out the trailer to empty load on location. Removed u bolts, leaf spring, and left to pick up parts. Check with several vendors before Mario found the correct leaf spring. Drove back to the location, installed leaf spring with new u bolts. The customer asked for some minor welding also. Completed trailer leaf spring repairs within an hour. The most common road service call Mario gets at night, "My brakes won't release, I can't move." The most common issues are a defective brake chamber, a busted hose, and several air leaks in the system. Mario stocks air chamber, most common hoses, and lots of valves. Check your air system daily. When air is full at 125psi, with truck off, press on brakes. The loss should not be more than 2 psi per minute for a truck and 3psi per minute for a truck and trailer. If more leaks than that per minute, the complete system needs to be checked. Trucks sometimes have leaks in dash, old brittle air bags in cab or suspension, and/or old brittle air hoses. Yesterday we had a 2005 Freightliner with an automatic Allison transmission, it had a bad fuse on the harness that goes from transmission to Detroit motor.
